Being Australian Made Week it seems like a good time tointroduce ourselves!
This is us, Ellen on the left (“The Mum”) and Jess on the right (“The Daughter”). We live together on our farm in Gunning NSW where we have loads of fun working together every day! Bandicute started with just a few metres of fabric which we designed ourselves and had custom printed, and a couple of sewing machines set up on our dining table.
That first fabric design was the Little Aussies print which to this day is still our bestseller. Eventually we upgraded to a studio and an industrial sewing machine but soon enough demand for our products outgrew us and we were at a cross roads. We were faced with a choice of sourcing manufacturing offshore, or keeping it Australian made.
It would have been much more profitable to go offshore, but everything in our instincts said no. It’s by no means the easy option keeping our products Australian made – finding skilled and available seamstresses takes a lot of research, trial and error. We’re happy so say that we now have a team of amazing ladies in Brisbane and Sydney that we love working with!
So for us, having an Australian made product is a principle we live by, even though it costs us a lot more to have our products made here. It was a conscious choice by us to accept a lower profit margin because it is vitally important to us to keep our Australian made Bandicute products accessible to you all. It’s also just the right thing to do. To do our bit to support Australian jobs and the economy.
But we couldn’t do it without your amazing support, so this week is just as much about celebrating us, as it is about celebrating you 💕 thank you!!
Australian made week is all about encouraging Aussies to support our economy and create jobs by buying Aussie made! For more information and to browse the list of amazing Australian made products which are certified by Australian Made Campaign, head here.
